ABOUT
US
Incorporated
over fifty years ago by a group of equine enthusiasts in Boone
County, Missouri, the Missouri Horse Shows Association remains one
of the most successful multi-disciplined organizations in existence
today.
The
MHSA achieves its objective of promoting the breeding, development,
exhibition, marketing and ownership of light horses by offering
Year End and High Point Horse Awards in over 140 divisions to members
and their nominated horses. Membership in the organization is not
limited to those residing within the State of Missouri. Currently
approximately 500 individual members and their nominated horses
compete in over 130 member shows and competitions located within
the State of Missouri and its seven contiguous states: Iowa, Nebraska,
Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois. Awards
are presented in categories in the Hunter/Jumper disciplines, Dressage,
Eventing and the Show Horses and Ponies category which includes
classes for American Saddlebreds, Morgan, Arabians and Half-Arabians,
National Show Horses, Roadster Ponies and the western breeds.
The MHSA is proud of its emphasis on the Junior Exhibitor.
In 1983 the MHSA initiated the Medallion Equitation Classes. Nominated
equitation riders compete throughout the year in Hunter Seat, Adult
Hunter Seat, Saddle Seat, Stock Seat and the recently added Adult
Saddle Seat MHSA Medallion classes. The top twenty riders are eligible
to compete in the finals which are held each fall at a designated
member show. Top ten prizes are awarded in all classes and the Champions
in the 17 and under classes receive a scholarship to the college
of their choice. Since 1983 a total of $21,000 has been awarded
to students attending colleges throughout the United States.
Member
shows and competitions range from one-day schooling shows and events
to such prestigious competitions as the American Royal, Oklahoma
Centennial, Germantown Horse Show, Missouri Dressage Classic, St.
Louis National, Queeny Park Horse Trials, MASCUP Championships and
the Worlds Champion Kentucky State Fair. In addition to year end
and high point awards for horses and riders, the MHSA also awards
Star Show and Show of the Year awards to its member shows, as well
as Trainer of the Year in all the disciplines and several special
memorial traveling trophies. Awards are presented at the association's
General Meeting and Awards Banquet held each February in Columbia,
Missouri.
With
over fifty years of history, reasonable membership and horse nomination
fees, a variety of shows and events of all types to chose from
and an emphasis on youth, we hope you'll agree that the Missouri
Horse Shows Association has something for everyone. We are happy
to welcome you to the Missouri Horse Shows Association. Our horse
show year is from December 1 through November 30. Annual dues and

but members may join anytime during the show year. Membership and
